The Challenge

What was broken

[01]

A brand identity from zero

No logo, no color palette, no typography system, no visual language existed. The firm's entire brand had to be created before a single webpage could be designed. Four partners with strong opinions meant the process needed to accommodate multiple stakeholders and converge efficiently.

[02]

A site that didn't look like a startup

Partners with pedigrees from top-tier international firms needed a website that projected established credibility from day one. Prospective clients — general counsel at multinational corporations, sovereign state officials — would judge the firm's competence partly by the quality of its web presence.

[03]

Bold, unconventional imagery

The client explicitly rejected every cliche in legal web design: no gavels, no scales of justice, no Lady Liberty, no stock photos of handshakes in conference rooms. They wanted sport and action photography — rowing crews, fencing, Thai boxing — to project dynamism and competitive edge.

[04]

Complex content architecture

Ten attorney bios each requiring seven tabbed sections (overview, honors, education, clerkships, bar admissions, languages, publications). Seven practice area pages. A news and insights hub. Content arriving in waves from partners across multiple time zones while design and development ran in parallel.

[05]

A phased, coordinated launch

One founding partner was still serving his notice period at a previous firm. The launch had to be phased: a holding page on January 14, followed by the full site on January 16, timed to coincide with a coordinated LinkedIn announcement that ultimately generated 30,000+ views.

[06]

International audience, single language

The site needed to speak to a global audience — attorneys in Paris, sovereign wealth funds in Abu Dhabi, corporate clients in Tokyo — while built as a single English-language site. The firm's multilingual capabilities (French, German, Spanish, Italian, Arabic) had to be communicated without a localized build.

Goals and Approach.

[01]

Establish Digital Credibility

Create a website that matches the polish of top-tier international law firms — Enyo Law, Selendy Gay, Susman Godfrey — while projecting the agility and personality of a boutique.

[02]

Attract Direct Clients

Build a site optimized for the segment that matters most: companies, sovereign states, and individuals who find the firm through search rather than referral. These clients may need litigation counsel once in a decade.

[03]

Differentiate Through Design

Use sport and action photography, hexagonal motifs, and warm color palettes to stand apart from every other litigation firm. The design itself should signal the firm's positioning: traditional Big Law quality, delivered differently.

[04]

Support Recruitment

A dedicated careers page communicating the firm's pro-DEI culture, flexible working model, and people-first values to attract top talent from larger firms.

[05]

Build SEO Foundations

Clean URL structure, on-page meta optimization, structured data, XML sitemaps, and analytics integration — so the firm can invest in organic growth when ready, on a technically sound base.

[06]

Enable Self-Serve Content

WordPress CMS with training so the legal team can publish news articles, update attorney bios, and manage content without developer involvement.

Detailed Design Process Over Guesswork.

Onboarding Call

Onboarding Call

The engagement began with a detailed onboarding questionnaire completed collaboratively by all four founding partners: Remy Gerbay, Ben Quarmby, Joel Melendez, and James Boykin. The document ran to over 3,000 words and covered firm positioning, all seven practice areas, target audience segments, design preferences (with extensive competitor URL references), logo direction (hexagon shape, warm colors, precision and innovation as mood), multiple tagline options, and visual inspiration drawn from sport photography and geometric architectural motifs. Primary contact established: Remy Gerbay. Domain already purchased: hexagonadvocates.com. The onboarding also surfaced a critical constraint — James Boykin's notice period at his previous firm, which would later require a phased launch strategy.

      Notable Technical Challenges and Solutions

      SEO continuity on launch

Every existing URL mapped and 301-redirected before go-live. Domain authority preserved — rankings improved within weeks of launch rather than the months a reset would have required.

      Healthcare schema markup

LocalBusiness, MedicalBusiness, and Review schema implemented across all pages. Direct result: 933 additional clicks from Google Review Snippets — a rich result format competitors without structured data can't access.

      Mobile performance at 90+

All images in WebP, lazy loading enabled, WP Rocket caching, and Cloudways server-level caching stacked. GTMetrix and PageSpeed audits run before launch. 90+ scores achieved across all tested pages.

      Booking widget integration

The Hearlink booking widget integrated with matching visual styling — no off-brand redirect, no friction break between the site and the booking flow.

      Google Analytics 4

Why We Built this in Webflow

      Technology logo
      Feature image 1

      [01]

      Budget & Timeline fit

A 40-page custom build at $4,600 in 8 weeks. WordPress's battle-tested ecosystem let us move fast without sacrificing quality. A comparable Next.js build would have added 4–6 weeks and significant cost — not the right trade-off for every client.

      Feature image 2

      [02]

CMS the client can actually use

Ibrahim and Ajmal update clinic hours, staff bios, and blog posts without touching code or raising a ticket. WordPress's admin panel works from day one — no training, no dependency on Quixta for routine content changes.

      [03]

      Healthcare plugin ecosystem

Schema markup, GDPR cookie consent, live chat, Google Maps, and Hearlink booking widget — all covered by mature, maintained WordPress solutions. Building this in a headless stack would have been cost-prohibitive.

      [04]

      Full HTML control for SEO

No page builder. No theme. Custom PHP templates for every page type — complete control over heading structure, schema injection, canonical tags, and Core Web Vitals. The 42% position improvement was built into the markup from day one.

      [05]

      Scalable hosting on Cloudways

Deployed on Cloudways (DigitalOcean), not shared hosting. Server-side caching, WP Rocket, WebP images. Fast, scalable, and the client controls their own hosting account — no lock-in to any proprietary infrastructure.

      [06]

      Full ownership on delivery

On go-live: full source code, admin credentials, all design files, CMS walkthrough. No retainer required to keep the site running. No per-seat licensing. No platform fee that scales with traffic. The site belongs to them — not to any vendor.

What Makes a Law Firm Website Different

      Credibility is Non-Negotiable

A corporate general counsel deciding whether to hire outside litigation counsel will spend less than thirty seconds on your website. The design must project competence, stability, and sophistication instantly. Generic templates, stock photography of handshakes, or inconsistent typography will cost you the engagement before you get a chance to pitch.

Content Arrives on Its Own Schedule

Law firm websites rarely launch with all content ready. Attorneys are busy litigating. Bios arrive late, practice descriptions get revised, partner titles change. The CMS and the build process need to accommodate this reality — development cannot wait for final copy on every page.

      Attorney Bios Drive the Decision

The attorney bio page is the most important page on any law firm website. It's where the hiring decision happens. Bios need depth (selected cases, clerkships, publications, languages) organized in scannable, tabbed sections — not walls of text. In this project, the Our Lawyers page had a 9.3% bounce rate, meaning over 90% of visitors continued exploring.

      Ethical Constraints Shape the Design

Legal advertising rules vary by state. Disclaimers, attorney advertising notices, and careful language around "results" and "specializations" must be baked into the design — not bolted on as afterthoughts. The Hexagon Advocates footer includes the required notice: "Content may include attorney advertising, and does not constitute legal advice."

Not every way of building is alike.

      Basic tools / MVPs

Every design decision in this project was grounded in UX research, audience analysis, and competitor benchmarking. We don't open Figma until we understand who the patient is.

      Mid-level platforms

Technical SEO — schema, 301 redirects, URL architecture, on-page optimisation — built into development, not added after. The site ranked within weeks because it was built to rank.

      Advanced / Enterprise systems

The location page template means Direct Ear Care can open a clinic in Leeds and add a ranking-ready page themselves. The digital infrastructure scales with the business.
